Beale Street: The Mecca of The Blues

Beale Street: Where it all began...people came up from the Delta on Saturdays to hear and sing the blues. There is only a block and 1/2 left but it is still rockin'...

Schwab on Beale: The only original landmark left where you can find just about anything...

Beale street musician: Talk about the land of grace...

BB on Beale: The King of the Blues came up from the Delta to work as a radio DJ, made his first recordings for Sun Records, a blues label and became the greatest electric blues guitarist by using silence as much as sound and sending electric shock waves through your heart by putting the burdens and the joys of a life well lived in every note he plays...

My duet on Beale Street with Louisiana Mojo Queen Ms. Zeno on "Amazing Grace". As you can tell, the crowd was going wild...she is an amazing singer. You can buy her music at http://www.southernmusic.net/zenobio.htm

the Gibson guitar factory where axes are all hand made. About 40 or so per day

706 Union avenue, home of Sun studios. Owner Sam Philips had a small blues label. he recorded BB King and Howlin' Wolf among others before they immigrated up north and before he met a young white kid that would blow racial barriers to smitherens

This is the spot where Elvis Presley stood during his recording "audition" for Sam Philips. Philips was not happy and told him to take a break. Presley and the Blue Boys started jamming on Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup's "That's all right mama" and you know the rest...a few years ago, Bob Dylan's management called Sun to say that Dylan would be coming to visit the Studio (which is still active). Dylan arrived as scheduled, walked in, walked up to this spot, got down on his knees, kissed the spot, got up and left...

sorry...this is THE MIKE and I just could not resist...

The original recording equipment...no re-recording...all live...Sam Philips' genius was all in the placement of microphones and musicians...

Gates to the land of grace...

Elvis Presley Boulevard: The gates to the land of grace...

...it is a lot more modest than it looks...
